About

Round Rock Preserve is a serene spot nestled near the northeast edge of the town of New Castle. Almost 12 acres, this wooded hill and meadow were once slated for development and partially cleared. In 2018, Kingfisher Philanthropies, a charitable foundation, acquired it and is committed to healing and preserving it for the wildlife that lives here. It is now open to all who enjoy taking a quiet hike in nature.

The Preserve offers hiking trails, scenic views, and lots of peace and quiet.

The Preserve

Round Rock Preserve comprises almost 12 acres of beautiful, hilly land adjacent to many more acres protected by the Westchester Land Trust and by the Town of New Castle. It is a wildlife preserve, where animals and plants make their home and people are welcome to visit. On a visit you may see all kinds of wild creatures including raptors, bluebirds, wild turkeys, deer, fox, and even a coyote … all live in these woods.

The Preserve offers approximately a half-mile of winding hiking paths, nicknamed “Bunny’s Trail.” While most of the trail is gentle, there are sections where hills present a moderate challenge. Get to the top, and you will be rewarded with stunning views that stretch for miles.
